Hello, Nansledan

You may have spotted our team hard at work in Nansledan.  We’re excited to have recently completed the first retrofitted Solar PV slate roof installation on the Nansledan Estate!

Dominic, one of Naked Solar’s Installation Supervisors (1 Dor Priweythor) and his wife Katie are now proud generators of their own Solar energy, slashing their CO2e and energy bills.  We’re enjoying his excited daily reports about his Solar Generation app.

We’ve worked closely with the Duchy to ensure any Solar installed on Nansledan maintains the beautiful aesthetic that makes Nansledan a leading example to all housing developers.

On this page you’ll find a great offer for Nansledan residents and details of The Duchy guidlines to ensure Solar PV can be installed on Nansledan houses while maintaining the estate’s beauty.

Can I have Solar? – The Duchy’s Guidelines

The Duchy has always been sympathetic to Solar Panel Installations providing the visual impact maintains Nansledan’s Beautiful Street Scene.  The Duchy welcomes it’s residents commitment to sustainable living.

Having worked closely to deliver Solar Installations for new houses on Nansledan, Naked Solar liaised again with The Duchy to develop the following guidance, designed to support your application to live a greener life.

Guidance for traditional surface mounted Solar Installations (On-Roof System)

Applications for Solar Panel installations, mounted on existing slate roofs (known as ‘on-roof’ or ‘above roof’) will be considered and the following guidance must be followed.  Garage roofs that are set back from the road, or sited in estate courtyards, and where installation of solar panels will not adversely impact the public realm, will also be looked at sympathetically.

  • Solar Panels must maximise the available roof space of your property (whilst complying with MCS guidelines) and the Solar array must be central on your roof.
  • Solar Panels are installed on a private or semi-public facing realm i.e. not facing main roads.
  • All cables must be neatly tied to the mounting system, so they are not visible around the array.
  • All cable routes must be internal i.e entering the property through the roof behind the panels.  No external cable runs on any property facades.
  • Clamps must be positioned at equal distances from the edges of each solar panel, in accordance with the manufacturer’s specified clamping zones, maximising durability and aesthetic.
  • The mounting rail overhang beyond the clamp must not protrude more than 20mm and must be even across the array.
  • Spacing between rows and columns of panels must be the same as the clamp width (usually 18-20mm).
  • The space between the Solar Panels and the roof fabric must be no more than 120mm.
  • Solar inverters must not be installed in loft spaces.
  • The Duchy will need evidence that all equipment for your Solar Installation is ethically sourced (Naked Solar can provide this for any equipment supplied).
  • An MCS certificate must be issued for all Solar installations.
  • Solar panels must be black framed with a black back sheet having no silver or white grid lines (as shown below and on our Solar Panel Aesthetics page).

The all black panel is the preferred aesthetic of The Duchy.  Naked Solar have already installed hundreds of Sunpower Maxeon all black panels for new builds across Nansledan.

To obtain permission for your proposed Solar Installation, you’ll need to provide an image (like the one shown above that Naked Solar provide from PV Sol software reports) to give The Duchy a visible representation of where the panels will be sited.

Our expert design team can produce a bespoke Solar report, detailing energy generated, bill savings, ROI, system payback and lots of other information to help you make an informed choice. We can use the image from this report along with your property details in your Solar application.

Ready to start your Solar journey?

The first step is to check if your property is suitable for solar panels. You can do this by sending an inquiry to The Duchy at [email protected].

Once The Duchy confirms your property’s suitability, we’ll work with you to design a solar system that fulfils your Solar desires and adheres to their guidelines. We’ll also provide all the necessary documentation you’ll need to get your project approved.

Who are Naked Solar?

A Nationally Acclaimed Solar Installer on your doorstep.  We started way back in 2010, with 2 employees operating out of our MD’s kitchen in St Columb Minor.

Since then, we’ve become a trusted voice in the UK renewable energy industry.  In 2013 we defined our purpose as “improve faith in our industry”, meaning we put our purpose over profit, helping as many people as possible slash their energy bills and CO2e by generating their own clean energy, resulting in:

  • Delivery of energy independence through thousands of Solar Installs across the South West.
  • Growing our team (locally) to support surging solar demand.  In 2023 we celebrated our team becoming 50 strong.
  • Becoming chosen Installation partners of many New Build Developers like Wain Homes & Morrish Homes.
  • Opening our first Hub in Exeter in 2023 to provide a more responsive service to our Devon, Somerset and Dorset customers – more Hubs are in the pipeline.

Naked As Employers

To keep the biggest proportion of Naked Solar’s CO2e down we employ locally as much as possible, you’ve probably seen the cycle path full of our team walking or cycling into our office at Quintdown Business Park. This also brings us closer to our community.  We want to play our part in boosting the local economy sustainably and putting Newquay on the map as a thriving, positive place to live and work.

We’ve covered all bases with a great range of Employee Benefits and policies that led to Naked Solar being listed in Best Place to Work in Cornwall 2023 and 2024.

We continue to expand our amazing team to meet soaring demand for renewable energy across the South West, with plans to bring our first class service to the whole UK.

Teaching local people the skills our planet needs now

The biggest barrier to combating Climate Change is the lack of people with the wide range of skills required for renewable energy deployment.

Naked Solar’s Planet Maintenance Academy provides members of our local community with the key skills required to tackle the climate crisis head on, helping them gain employment in a thriving industry and become another ‘Solar Superhero’ joining the fight for a cleaner planet.

We’re proud to have created the UK’s first and only Solar PV roofing training course which we deliver ourselves from our training roof in Cubert. Graduates of our Planet Maintenance Academy   gain employment in the solar industry, either with us or for other UK Solar Installers.

We’re generating hundreds of exciting career opportunities here in the years to come, so keep your eye on our jobs page if you want to join us in the fight against climate change.
