What happens if my PV Solar Panels are producing more than I’m using?
When your solar panels generate more electricity than your home needs, you have two main ways to handle the surplus:
- Battery Storage:Instead of sending surplus energy straight away, a battery storage system captures the excess electricity so you can use it later—such as in the evening or on cloudy days.
- Exporting Back To The Grid with SEG: Any excess energy that isn’t stored in a battery can be exported back to the national grid. Through the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), you can get paid for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) of renewable electricity you send back to the grid.
