Our MD, Tony set out in 2010 with a vision to improve faith in a growing Solar Industry.

Since then we’ve had the pleasure of helping thousands of homeowners choose their perfect Solar System, seen multiple industry boom periods, have 7 different homes and grow to a team over 50 Solar superstars.

Whether you’ve been with us from the start, or you’ve recently come across Naked, we thank you for being part of the journey. To mark the occasion we’ve put together some of the big moments we’ve shared so far.

2010

• We Switch On The company switches on under its original name, ‘Cornwall Solar Panels’.

• Our First Customer Dave Holt becomes the very first customer, taking a chance on the company and trusting them to complete his installation even before they were MCS accredited.

•  MCS Accreditation Thanks to the installation being inspected, Cornwall Solar Panels becomes MCS accredited.

 

2011 – 2012

• The First Office The team moves out of Tony’s kitchen and into its first dedicated office in The Old School House, Newquay, with a team of two.

•  First Expansion Due to rapid growth, the company moves again to Trevissome Park, just outside Truro (Team = 7).

• Award Success & Purpose Defined The company wins UK’s Best New Renewables Installer at the Renewables Awards. The company’s purpose is established as: “Improve faith in our industry”.

2013 – 2015

• Values & Commitment The team fleshes out the core values, which include Continually Improve, Deliver on Promises, Recognise Good Performance, and Treat Everyone with Respect. The company wins the Outstanding Commitment to Training award, and its first-ever customer returns for a second installation.

• The Return of Dave. Our first ever customer likes what we did, so wants more of the same. We’re delighted to oblige. (You can hear from Dave below!)

• Move to Prow Park To reduce the team’s CO2e from commuting, the office moves to Prow Park, Newquay (Team = 8).

• National Ambition With the goal of bringing an informed choice to the entire UK, the company sets a target to be the nation’s largest rooftop solar installer by 2030. They are also a Finalist for Best Contribution to a Sustainable Future at the Cornwall Sustainability Awards.

2016 – 2017

•  Multiple Wins Cornwall Solar Panels is named the Best National Solar PV Installer at the Energy Efficiency & Retrofit Awards and the Northern European Installer at the Sunpower Conference in Amsterdam.

•  Embracing EV The zappi EV charger is launched, becoming the first truly excess solar responsive EV charger, allowing electric car owners to charge for free from excess solar at home.

• The company also wins UK Solar Installer of the Year and Best South West Installer at the Energy Efficiency Awards.

2018 – 2019

• Cornwall Solar Panels Becomes Naked Solar After 18 months of planning, Cornwall Solar Panels ‘goes Naked,’ choosing the name that reflects its values and purpose and enables expansion across the UK.

•  Move to Seabase Units Needing even more space, the company moves to Seabase Units in Newquay (Team = 10).

• Solar Stands Alone The Feed-In Tariff (FIT) ends, having successfully made solar viable without requiring government subsidy. In the same year, the SunPower Maxeon3 panel hits 22.8% efficiency, the highest in the world.

2020 – 2021

• Regional Dominance Naked Solar continues its run of regional excellence, winning Best South West Installer at the Energy Efficiency Awards in 2020/21, 2022, and 2023.

• During this period, the company also consistently secured 2nd place at the national level in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020/21, and 2022.

• We win Build Magazine’s Best Solar Panel Installer in the South West Award.

 

2022 – 2023

• We win National Installer of the Year Again! We’re the only company to have won twice.
• Our First EV Business trip to Intersolar in Munich. Powered By The Sun.
• We find our 7th home. Right here. We like it. We plan to stay here a while. Probably.
• Exeter Installation and Maintenance Hub opens. Demand across the South West continues to surge, we open a Hub in the heart of Exeter to provide a responsive service across Devon, South Somerset and East Dorset.

2024 – 2025

• Naked Goes B-Corp. After months (maybe even years?) of a rigorous application process, we achieve B-Corp certification for our commitment to balancing profit with purpose.
• 50 Strong. Dominik, our Solar Consultant is proud to make up our 50th employee.
• We’re Tesla Powerwall ‘Premium Cetified Installers’. A recognition only attributed to the top 3% of UK Powerwall Installers based on quality of installation and customer satisfaction.
• SunPower Elite Partner Status. Just a handful of UK installers receive this accreditation for our commitment to installation excellence.
