Big news for the UK Energy Market! Tesla has permission to sell electricity to British homes. It hasn’t started yet.

We’re a Tesla Powerwall Premium Certified Installer — one of a small group in the UK, and the only one of our size in the far South West. That means we tend to hear about Tesla energy changes early, and we update this page the moment we’re able to.

No launch date has been confirmed. Anyone telling you otherwise is guessing

Tesla Electric - Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. Tesla holds an Ofgem electricity supply licence granted in March 2026, but has not published UK tariffs, opened sign-ups or confirmed a launch date.

  • Tesla Electric is the name of Tesla’s retail energy supply brand.

    Essentially this will operate in the UK market similarly to EDF, British Gas, EON or Octopus Energy, whereby homeowners and businesses buy electricity directly from Tesla.

  • Yes, absolutely. Tesla Electric is an independent retail electricity tariff available to everyone. You do not need to own a Tesla car, a Powerwall, solar panels, or any other Tesla hardware to sign up and buy your electricity supply through them.

  • With more details of Tesla Electric’s benefits to Tesla Powerwall owners to be disclosed, here’s some of the key benefits we know so far:

    • Automated savings: Your Powerwall automatically charges when grid electricity is cheapest and discharges during expensive peak hours.

    • Unified software control: Manage your energy market buying, selling, solar production, and battery reserves in real-time through a single Tesla app dashboard.

    • Export optimization & VPP participation: Capitalize on high-demand periods by selling stored energy back to the grid to turn your battery into a revenue source.

    • Smart backup protection: Intelligent software balances grid buying and emergency reserves so you maximize savings without losing outage protectio

  • No official date has been confirmed yet, independent commentary points to later in 2026.  As a Tesla premium certified Installer, we’ll one of the first to know and continue to update this page as and when we get information.

  • Almost certainly not. Tesla’s Texas service is open to anyone. However it’s most likely that having a Tesla ecosystem combined with Tesla Electric will unlock significant additonal benefits for homeowners.

  • No. The Ofgem licence is electricity only. If you use gas you’d need a separate gas supplier.

  • Yes. The portion you set aside for power cuts is ringfenced and isn’t touched during grid events.

  • Waiting doesn’t earn you anything. A Powerwall saves money on tariffs available today, and Tesla Electric would be a switch you make later — not a reason to delay the hardware. Installing now also puts you ahead of any launch-driven installation queue.
