- Has Tesla Electric launched in the UK yet?
No. Tesla holds an Ofgem electricity supply licence granted in March 2026, but has not published UK tariffs, opened sign-ups or confirmed a launch date.
- What Is Tesla Electric?
Tesla Electric is the name of Tesla’s retail energy supply brand.
Essentially this will operate in the UK market similarly to EDF, British Gas, EON or Octopus Energy, whereby homeowners and businesses buy electricity directly from Tesla.
- Can I sign up for Tesla Electric if I don't own a Tesla vehicle or Powerwall?
Yes, absolutely. Tesla Electric is an independent retail electricity tariff available to everyone. You do not need to own a Tesla car, a Powerwall, solar panels, or any other Tesla hardware to sign up and buy your electricity supply through them.
- What are the benefits of Tesla Electric as a Powerwall owner?
With more details of Tesla Electric’s benefits to Tesla Powerwall owners to be disclosed, here’s some of the key benefits we know so far:
-
Automated savings: Your Powerwall automatically charges when grid electricity is cheapest and discharges during expensive peak hours.
-
Unified software control: Manage your energy market buying, selling, solar production, and battery reserves in real-time through a single Tesla app dashboard.
-
Export optimization & VPP participation: Capitalize on high-demand periods by selling stored energy back to the grid to turn your battery into a revenue source.
-
Smart backup protection: Intelligent software balances grid buying and emergency reserves so you maximize savings without losing outage protectio

- When will Tesla Electric launch in the UK?
No official date has been confirmed yet, independent commentary points to later in 2026. As a Tesla premium certified Installer, we’ll one of the first to know and continue to update this page as and when we get information.
- Will I need a Tesla vehicle or Tesla Powerwall to join Tesla Electric?
Almost certainly not. Tesla’s Texas service is open to anyone. However it’s most likely that having a Tesla ecosystem combined with Tesla Electric will unlock significant additonal benefits for homeowners.
- Will Tesla supply gas as well?
No. The Ofgem licence is electricity only. If you use gas you’d need a separate gas supplier.
- Is my backup power reserve protected during VPP events?
Yes. The portion you set aside for power cuts is ringfenced and isn’t touched during grid events.
- Should I wait for Tesla Electric before installing a Powerwall?
Waiting doesn’t earn you anything. A Powerwall saves money on tariffs available today, and Tesla Electric would be a switch you make later — not a reason to delay the hardware. Installing now also puts you ahead of any launch-driven installation queue.
