Commercial PV troubleshooting

When it comes to troubleshooting a commercial system, the way of going about it is much the same as domestic systems. It is merely the scope of the investigation that can at times be far larger. Take a look through our guides, or raise a new Maintenance enquiry to get your business solar back to its full potential.

Commercial troubleshooting can be as simple as residential troubleshooting at times: it all depends on the size of system you have and the equipment installed.

If you have Solar Edge inverters installed, do take a look at our Solar Edge guides first of all, as you may well find that one or more of these are useful.

If our guides do not shed light on the situation, please do not hesitate to contact us through our Maintenance Enquiry page.

Multiple Inverters

If you have multiple PV inverters on site, the first thing to do is to clearly identify which inverter requires maintenance. Identify the isolator switches, relevant Distribution Board (aka fuse board, or consumer unit) and the breakers that are for this specific inverter. Are these all in the ON position? Be sure to have this information if contacting us about maintenance on your system.

If you or your on site electrician believes there to be a problem with the AC (grid) side of the electrics, there are some things to check first of all:

  1. Check your distribution boards (fuse boards) in case of trips.
  2. Check that all of the associated isolator switches with the part of the system affected are switched on.
  3. Check for cable damage, especially in farm buildings, barns, outside areas, etc.
  4. Check outside cable junction boxes for obvious damage or water ingress .
  5. Check for degradation on electrical equipment – is there rust on inverters, cabling coming loose, etc?

If you have an Isolation fault (also known as RISO, DC String fault, ISO-LOW, I-LEAK-PRO), then when it comes to commercial systems this can be a time-consuming procedure. Please look at our residential guide on DC Isolation faults (under Other Faults) first of all – the same applies with commercial but on a larger scale.
