Is Elon Musk damaging Tesla?

He’s all over the news, he’s polarising opinion, he’s teamed up with Trump and he’s getting a lot of attention… but what’s the impact of Elon Musk on Tesla?

We’ve heard negative comments about Elon from customers, including some refusals to buy Tesla products.  We understand the emotion that Elon’s actions are evoking, we’re also very much aware of the wider Tesla company.  We work with their team on an almost daily basis and we know they build great products and care deeply about the environment.

Tesla is a company with a strong identity beyond any single individual.  Founded in 2003 by engineers Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, Tesla’s Electric Vehicles and groundbreaking Home Battery System, Powerwall have revolutionised the automotive and energy industries, setting new standards for performance, technology, and sustainability.

Elon Musk initially invested in Tesla in 2004 when the company was 6 months old, he now owns 20.06% of Tesla Shares, resigned as Chairman in 2018 after a lawsuit about a tweet he made and is currently CEO overseeing Tesla’s product development.

Whilst many Naked Solar customers disagree with the ethics of Tesla’s CEO, they separate product from person and choose the Tesla Powerwall for it’s market-leading features, incredible value and contribution to a sustainable future.

Since the launch of the Powerwall 1 in 2015, we have closely collaborated with Tesla employees.  They are an exceptional team, united by a shared passion for shaping a cleaner future, supporting Tesla’s mission to ‘accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy‘.
