Ground Preparation

When installing Console Bin ground mounts or floor mounted battery storage, the type of ground underneath needs consideration. This is to ensure the ground is flat, stable and strong enough to support the weight going onto it. Read on for the requirements of Console Bins and batteries.

Console Bin Ground Mounts

To ensure correct installation and long-term performance of the Console Bin ground-mounted solar system, we recommend preparing the ground by flattening the area. This doesn’t require full levelling, but should have no undulations.

This prepared area should cover the full panel footprint plus a minimum of 500 mm around the perimeter.

A weed control membrane should be installed, followed by a shallow layer of small stone chippings. This preparation helps provide a stable base, improves drainage, reduces vegetation growth, and supports accurate placement of the mounting system.

Floor-mounted batteries

Some battery units require floor mounting. Your consultant or surveyor will have informed you if this is the case.

An optimal base for battery installation is a 50-100mm deep concrete plinth extending slightly past the footprint of the battery.

Patio slabs can also be appropriate, as long as they are prepared with a suitable sub-base, are installed slightly above ground level and have slight fall (pitch) to prevent standing water under the battery.

Here is an example of a concrete plinth base built specifically for a SigEnergy Sigenstor battery.
