Stunning Cornish New Build Futureproofs with Solar PV

Naked Solar had the pleasure of working alongside Ridgwells Construction to design and install a comprehensive Solar PV system for a large, beautifully unique new build property in Cornwall.

Project Overview

The homeowner had highlighted his interest in exploring the possibility of renewable energy for the property to Ridgwells. The primary need this particular project was futureproofing, looking to utilise Solar energy to combat soaring monthly energy costs and maintain a good level of self-sufficiency.

This was an especially prominent consideration during the design stage, with the stunning property featuring a number of high consumption appliances, including:

  • 2 lane ten pin bowling alley
  • Wine room temp/humidity control
  • Heated towel rails in each bathroom
  • Cinema room
  • 2 EV Chargers
  • Dumb waiter serving 3 floors

The Process

With the customer need paramount to driving the project, Naked Solar initially had an in-depth consultation with Ridgwells Ltd to establish what the homeowner would like from their Solar PV system.

Once this need was established, Naked used advanced design software PV Sol to provide accurate forecasting of key information such as solar generation, system payback and level self-sufficiency for multiple design options – allowing both Ridgwells Ltd and the homeowner to make an informed decision.

After a design had been selected, Naked Solar had a 3-way consultation with Ridgwells and the Homeowner to review designs and answer any further questions, provide clarity and instill confidence for the next step of the process.

Solar PV System

1. Panels

With the need for as much self-sufficiency as possible, Naked Solar utilised both east and west aspects of the roof with a total of 40 Panels – maximising Solar generation.

Due to the flat pitch of the roof, this would aid solar generation further, in summer months still generating until around 7pm.

The Homeowner opted for the highest quality panels in the SunPower Maxeon 415W, providing superior efficiency and industry leading 40 year warranty.

The homeowner was also wowed by the in-roof design and all black panels combination, creating a stunning sleek aesthetic fit to adorn this beautiful contemporary property.

2. Inverter

In order to make best use of the phases in the house, the Solar PV system was designed with 3 different sized inverters.

  • SolarEdge 6kW
  • SolarEdge 5kW
  • SolarEdge 3.68kW

2. EV Charging

Solar energy generated will also be used to charge EV’s of the Homeowner, in this instance the customer opted for 2 Tesla Chargers.

Power generated every year 16,341 kWh
Level of self-sufficiency 33.7%
CO2e emissions avoided 6,524 kg / year
25 year saving £180,768.47
